Emotion Elicitation: A Comparison of Pictures and Films

Abstract Pictures and film clips are widely used and accepted stimuli to elicit emotions. Based on theoretical arguments it is often assumed that the emotional effects of films exceed those of pictures, but to date this assumption has not been investigated directly. The aim of the present study was to compare pictures and films in terms of their capacity to induce emotions verified by means of explicit measures. Heartbeat regulation is achieved through different routes originating from central autonomic network sources, as well as peripheral control mechanisms. While previous studies successfully characterized cardiovascular regulatory mechanisms during a single stressor, to the best of our knowledge, a combination of multiple concurrent elicitations leading to the activation of different autonomic regulatory routes has not been investigated yet. The integration of people with intellectual disabilities into working and social environments is one of the main issues in applying Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into Assistive Technology field. In order to solve this problem, the use of Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs) is a fact among the attendance community. Human Emotion Management System (HEMS) enhances the performance of ITSs.
